Welcome Message from the General Chair

Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 First International Conference on Biohybrid Robotics (ICBR 2026), to be held in China for the first time.

Robotics has long evolved in close dialogue with living organisms. Biomimetic and bioinspired robotics have achieved remarkable progress by learning from biological forms and principles, enabling agile locomotion, safe interaction, and adaptive behavior, and laying an important foundation for modern robotics.

As robots increasingly operate in organism-rich environments, particularly in medical and biomedical contexts, new challenges have emerged, including soft interaction with living tissues, responsiveness to biochemical signals, and stable performance in small-scale or harsh environments where conventional actuators and sensors are difficult to deploy.

Advances in bioengineering, tissue engineering, and micro- and nano-fabrication have made it increasingly feasible to integrate engineered systems with living organisms or their functional components. Biohybrid robotics now represents a new stage in the evolving relationship between robotics and biological systems.

ICBR 2026 is established in response to this transition. The conference aims to provide an international forum for researchers from robotics, bioengineering, materials science, neuroscience, and related fields to share recent advances, discuss common challenges, and explore future directions at the interface of engineering and biology.

We welcome you to this conference and look forward to your participation.

Sincerely,
